If you’re a fan of the Boeing fleet or enjoy the experience of flying larger passenger jets, a yoke might be your best bet, just like when you’re flying a Cessna 172 or Piper Arrow in real life.įor my own flight training, where I flew a yoke-equipped Piper Tomahawk, so a yoke was the better option for me. Yokes control pitch and roll of the aircraft through pushing, pulling, and turning motions, mimicking the controls of actual airplanes. ![]() They offer a highly realistic control scheme for those virtual pilots who prefer simulating commercial aviation or these popular 4-seater airplanes. Yokes are generally found in larger commercial aircraft, such as Boeing planes, or small aircraft like the popular Cessna and Piper aircraft, and they function much like a steering wheel in a car. But which one is right for you? That often depends on the type of aircraft you’re interested in flying and the level of realism you’re looking for. Two of the most common control devices used by flight sim enthusiasts are joysticks and yokes. When it comes to flying virtually, the type of hardware you use significantly impacts your experience. Joysticks offer an attractive alternative for both space-conscious users and those who predominantly fly aircraft controlled by sticks. However, for those who prefer the swift and precise response of a fighter jet, or those simply constrained by space, joysticks make an excellent choice.Īs flight simulator software grows increasingly realistic, having the right joystick not only enhances immersion but also refines your control and execution. For some, the flight simulator yoke is the go-to hardware, offering an authentic taste of what it’s like to command larger commercial aircraft. But to truly get the feel of it, you need the right flight simulator gear. We gave this feedback.Commanding an aircraft, gliding through the clouds or diving into intense aerial combats, is an exhilarating experience. I have been travelling and not had a chance to purchase the sim but in the alpha/beta there was no way to assign joystick settings profiles to aircraft. When you start a flight just remember to always select the proper profile for that plane. If you want the brakes to be on the same button for every plane then leave it in the default profile, if not remove it from the default profile and set it for every plane profile you create. (do this for all devices except the only one I leave is the keyboard.) Once you know that no device has the Brakes assigned, then select the device you want to assign the brakes like the yoke and select brakes and select the button. let's say I want to assign Brakes, I goto the yoke search for brakes - clear, goto joystick search for brakes - clear. You do not want to have the function assigned to several buttons on different devices.įor ex. do a search on the flaps and clear any assignments, do the same for the button your assigning. To make your life easy, there are a cpl things you also need to keep in mind, 1) set up a profile for every plane, 2) when you assign a function like throttle or flaps for ex. Do I need to buy another HOTAS although owning a joystick and a throttle? I am really hoping that I am missing something, otherwise it feels really weird that this should not be possible. Yeah I know that, but what is the problem of using the throttle axis of that particular device instead of the T1600M? ![]() I want funktion B, I use another button on the T1600M.īut in the new flight sim, I need to choose my input device on the top, and then in the menu below where you map your controls, you seem only to be able to assign buttons from that specific device? If I choose the T1600M, go to throttle and want to assign the X-52 throttle axis, it tells me something like "You are trying to assign a button from a device that is not selected". I want funktion A I use this button on the X-52 throttle. In every other game so far (including FSX) that is no problem. I continue to use only the throttle, and pair it with a T1600M joystick. I once had an X-52 HOTAS, and the joystick broke. I just installed Flight Simulator, and I have a big problem:
